Handcrafted in Ghana to the traditional recipe. Plantain skins and cocoa pods are sun-dried, roasted down to ash, and cooked with shea butter and water. That is the whole process and the whole ingredient list. The roasting is what makes it black soap rather than simply soap, and it is why no two batches come out quite the same colour.
Nothing else is added - no fragrance, no colourant, no preservative, no hardener. The bar is soft to the touch and will drink up water if you leave it sitting in a puddle, which is the one thing that shortens its life.
How to use it
Break off a piece rather than working with the whole bar. Work up a lather in your hands or on a cloth - it lathers more than you expect - then wash face, body or scalp and rinse well. Follow with a moisturiser. It cleans thoroughly, so if your skin runs dry, start at a few times a week and build up.
What is in it
Roasted cocoa pods, plantain skin ash, shea butter, purified water.
Keeping it
Shelf life around 24 months. Store somewhere cool and dry, and between uses keep it in an airtight container or a zip bag rather than in the shower.
External use only. Patch test on a small area first. Avoid contact with eyes. If irritation occurs, discontinue use.
