Raw black soap, in liquid form. In Ghana and Nigeria this is a household soap rather than a specialty item - plantain skins and cocoa pods are dried, burned down to ash, and that ash is cooked with plant oils. Nothing is bleached or perfumed, which is why the colour comes out uneven and the smell is faintly of woodsmoke.
Because it is raw, it cleans hard. It lifts oil and buildup off skin and scalp with no synthetic detergent doing the work. Anyone used to a foaming body wash is usually surprised by how little lather it makes and how clean the skin feels afterwards.
How to use it
Shake first - raw soap separates. A small amount on a cloth, sponge or hands, worked into a light lather. Face, body or scalp. Rinse thoroughly and follow with an oil or a moisturiser. If your skin runs dry, start at two or three times a week rather than daily.
What is in it
Roasted plantain skin ash, cocoa pod ash, plant oils, water. No fragrance, no colourant, no foaming agents.
Handmade in Richmond, Virginia. External use only. Patch test on a small area first. Keep out of eyes.
